Description

NGC 3201 (also known as Caldwell 79) is a low galactic latitude globular cluster in the southern constellation of Vela with a very low central concentration of stars.

This cluster is about 10.24 billion years old and located about 16,300 light years from the Sun with an estimated mass 157,000 times the mass of the Sun.

It has an apparant magnitude of 8.24 and is just over 18 arcminutes across visually.

I find the shorter 3 minute exposures work well on globulars as it helps avoid core blow out.

I managed this last night before the moon came up blasting. And the seeing was good to very good.

With temperature dropping I hope this pattern continues into Winter. It is certainly a nice break from the wet and wild of the last 6 months!
